Comparison of Igusa Akebono and Tokyo Green Tatami Mats
Discover the differences between Igusa Akebono and Tokyo Green tatami mats. Learn about cushioning, thermal control, aroma, thickness options, and edge customization to find the perfect fit for your space.
Cushioning Function
There is no significant difference in cushioning performance between Igusa Akebono and Tokyo Green tatami mats.
Thermal and Humidity Control
Igusa Akebono excels in thermal performance, maintaining even humidity levels in your room. However, leaving a futon spread out on it can lead to mildew. To prevent this, fold the futon every morning after use.
In contrast, Tokyo Green does not contain nutrients that mildew can feed on, making it less prone to mildew problems.
Aroma
- Some customers may find the natural aroma of Igusa Akebono less appealing.
- Tokyo Green is odorless, eliminating this concern.
Tatami Thickness and Durability
-
- 1.2-inch vs. 2-inch Thickness:
There is no noticeable difference in comfort or durability between 1.2-inch and 2-inch thick tatami mats for sitting or lying down. However, thicker tatami mats provide better heat insulation and are generally more durable.
-
- Customization:
We also offer 2-inch thick tatami mats. Due to the increased material and shipping costs, these are priced higher than standard mats.
Edge Coverage
- For tatami mats thicker than 2 inches, the tatami edge (tatami heri) cannot fully cover the sides, leaving parts of the core material visible. This may affect the appearance.
- Mats 1.2 inches or thinner can be fully covered with edges, resulting in a more polished and aesthetically pleasing product.
Usage Considerations
-
- When laying tatami mats in a traditional Japanese-style room with a wooden frame, there are no issues with appearance or fit.
- When used directly on floors without a frame, thicker tatami mats may appear slightly awkward as a finished product.
