Tatami products we manufacture are made using only the center portion of long rush grasses that have grown to a length of 135 cm or more.

Rush grasses are harvested only once each year in early summer.

How we quote for our made-to-measure Tatami mats

There are two way in which we can provide a quote.

1. You can ask us to quote based on the size and quantity of Tatami mats.

If you already have in mind a desired size for your Tatami mats, let us know the size (width x length x thickness) and quantity you require. Our Tatami mats can be manufactured in size increments of 1 mm. Orders are accepted from just a single mat. For example, you could specify “835mm x 934mm x 25mm, 3 mats” or “31 in. x 70 in. x 1.18 in., 8 mats”.

This series uses MIGUSA tatamiomote, which is made from a combined balance of durable polypropylene and a natural inorganic material (moisture absorbing calcium carbonate) that has a natural texture. While this tatami uses an inorganic material as a base, with consideration to the environment it does not emit dioxin or any other toxic substance when burned or disposed of. Compared to natural igusa, MIGUSA is strong, durable, and does not fade as easily. It has also been treated with water repellent and can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Unlike with igusa, mites and mold are not a problem. MIGUSA is also not as slippery and has the same amount of cushioning as igusa. We can also make tatami mats in original sizes to suit the size of a room, if you would like to cover the whole floor of a room with tatami mats. Please let us know the length and breadth of the floor area of the room, in units such as centimeters, millimeters, inches, and so on.

What material do you use for doko, the core of your tatami?

The core material of tatami is fiberboard.

The interior of the mats is made using fiber board.
At present, in Japan, mats that are made using straws carry a high
possibility of being defected due to mites or molds. As a result, the
material has long become obsolete in the country.

When rice straw tatami mats are exported, there is the issue of
quarantine, so our suggestion would be fiber board tatami mats.
