Combined with a water-resistant core, it can also be made washable.

DAIKEN Washi Tatami A Japanese paper-based surface built for durability, fade resistance, and easy maintenance. Available in many colors for both traditional and contemporary spaces, and compatible with floor heating systems when paired with the right core material.

More Than Traditional Green Tatami

Many people outside Japan still picture tatami as a pale-green traditional floor covering. In reality, modern tatami comes in a wide range of colors — gray, beige, black, brown, blue, and more.

Even tatami of the same color can create a subtle checkerboard effect: by changing the weave direction between mats, light reflects differently off each surface. This makes tatami a strong fit for modern architecture and minimalist interiors.

Traditional Tatami with Decorative Edges
