Size, Pricing & How to Request a Quote

Our custom-size tatami mats are made to order in Japan, one by one, to fit your space, lifestyle, and intended use.
This guide explains what custom-size tatami are, pricing structure (including Classic Black-Heri), size limits, thickness options, and how to request a quotation.

1. What Is a Custom Size Tatami?

Our custom-size tatami mats are crafted in Japan and can be tailored to fit a wide variety of spaces and uses, including:

  • Bedrooms used with futons
  • Platform beds or tatami bed frames
  • Living rooms or reading areas
  • Tea rooms or Japanese-style spaces
  • Area rugs that incorporate tatami aesthetics

You may order a single tatami mat or multiple mats, depending on your room layout and design preferences.

2. Information Required for a Quotation (Important)

To prepare an accurate quotation, please provide either ONE of the following:

✔ Option 1

Your desired tatami size(s) and quantity
(e.g. 90 × 200 × 30mm – 2 mats)

✔ Option 2

The dimensions of the space where the tatami will be installed

👉 If you provide the space dimensions, our team will calculate the optimal tatami size(s) and layout for you, and then prepare a quotation.

If you are unsure about sizing or layout, simply enter the space dimensions.
No size calculation is required on your side.

3. How to Enter Dimensions

  • Dimensions may be entered in cm / mm / inches
  • If ordering multiple sizes, please list each size on a separate line

90 × 200 × 30mm – 2 mats

4. Standard Size & Base Prices (Shipping Included)

The following size is used as the pricing reference for custom orders:

5. Custom Size Pricing Guide (Shipping Included)

Custom-size pricing is calculated based on the standard size above.

  • Up to 82cm: Base price +20%
  • Over 82cm up to 100cm: Base price +25%
  • Length over 100cm up to 200cm:
    Base price ×1.5 + $250

📦 Tatami longer than 100cm are treated as oversized international cargo, which significantly increases packing, handling, and international shipping costs.

6. Classic Black-Heri Series – Prices & Custom Sizing

The Classic Black-Heri Series uses a different reference (base) size from standard tatami.

Classic Black-Heri Igusa Akebono

  • Long (82 × 164 × 3 cm): $400

Classic Black-Heri Tokyo

  • Long (82 × 164 × 3 cm): $350

Custom Size Pricing for Classic Black-Heri

Custom-size pricing for the Classic Black-Heri Series is calculated based on the reference size above.

  • Up to 82cm: Base price +20%
  • Over 82cm up to 100cm: Base price +25%

Thickness Adjustment Fee (Classic Black-Heri)

If you select a thickness other than the reference thickness (30mm), the following additional fees apply:

  • 16mm – 29mm: No additional charge
  • 31mm – 40mm: +$40 per mat
  • 41mm – 50mm: +$70 per mat
  • 51mm – 60mm: +$100 per mat

💡 Although some customers request thicker tatami, 30mm (1.18 inches) is recommended for the best balance of comfort, stability, and weight.

7. Manufacturing Size Limits (Please Check)

Tatami mats can only be manufactured within the following limits:

Thickness

  • 15mm – 60mm (adjustable in 1mm increments)

Width

  • Up to 95cm (37.5 inches)

Length

  • Up to 200cm (78.74 inches)

⚠️ Sizes outside these limits cannot be manufactured.

8. Quotation & Ordering Flow

  1. Submit your information via the custom size quotation form
  2. Our team reviews the details and calculates the optimal tatami size(s)
  3. A quotation will be sent to you by email

If clarification is needed, we will contact you before finalizing the quotation.

providing only the dimensions of your space is perfectly fine.
