Baby crawling on clean tatami mats
We received feedback on Tatami from a customer who lives in Honolulu with her baby.
A customer in Honolulu gave us feedback about our Tatami. Thank you!
1. Before ordering tatami mats from our company, what kinds of concerns or troubles did you have? What was your desired solution to them?
I wasn’t sure whether to choose the Tokyo or Zen series since they sounded similar in terms of how to care for them. Having the samples shipped to me helped make that choice.
2. How did you find out about our tatami mats? (keyword searches, SNS, introduction by other parties, etc.)
Google search for Tatami, and I also liked your Instagram
3. After finding out about our tatami mats, did you consider applying immediately?
Yes
4. What points (which characteristics) were the deciding factors which led to your order?
Easy to clean, no worries about mold/mildew, price point
5. After actually using our tatami mats, what are your thoughts and feelings on them? Please provide your honest impressions.
They feel very nice under our feet, and our baby loves to crawl on it. It makes our room look clean too. I am very happy with our purchase!

Questions before buying tatami
I have a question about the ZEN vs TOKYO series. I’m having trouble choosing which would be best.
- 1) Do you have a recommendation for which one would do better in an environment like Hawaii (hot and humid)?
- 2) Do you know if either one is less prone to damage by our cats? We have two cats who currently like to scratch our rugs.

The Tokyo Series employs an inorganic combination of different types of plastics as its core material.
This core material is then stretched and remade into the surface of the tatami mats.
As a result, the mats from the TOKYO Series have high endurance and retain their color even when laid under direct sunlight.
On the other hand, the ZEN Series employs traditional Japanese papers as its core material.
The papers are made into paper strings, which are then woven into the surface of the mats. In addition, the surface of the mats from the ZEN Series is specially processed so that the mats are water-proofed. Liquids falling on these mats will bounce off while retaining their droplet shapes.
Similar to the TOKYO Series, the mats from the ZEN Series also have a higher endurance compared to the traditional Igusa mats and could retain their color when laid under direct sunlight.
Functionally, there are no noticeable differences between these two series.
>2) Do you know if either one is less prone to damage by our cats? We have two cats who currently like to scratch our rugs.
The TOKYO series is stronger than the ZEN series in terms of surface durability.

Tatami mats are not connected with each other when just laid on the floor.
Tatami has an anti-slip gripper on their back, which works against moving apart provided that they are laid on a smooth wooden floor.
The tatami mat will be completed in about 7-10 days. It will arrive in the US in 2-3 days after shipping via DHL or FedEx.
It’s recommended to choose and combine two different colors, one lighter and one darker, for the tatami. It’s also possible to choose only one color for the tatami. However, in this case, the tatami should be laid such that no two adjacent mats have the same mesh direction.
By laying the tatami mats in different mesh directions, the light reflecting from these mats will differ, creating an illusion of having two different colors.
This method of tatami laying is common for Japanese-style rooms. Such laying style is called a checkered-pattern laying style.
However, there are also many customers who choose to use two different colors.
For example, many customers choose to combine Green with Bright Green, or Beige with White.
