A customer in the U.S. who purchased a tatami mat sent us this photo.
It looks like they have laid the tatami mat over their existing flooring, and sleep on a futon on the tatami mat.
There are some people who suffer from lower back pain caused by strain from soft beds.
Reasons such as that one might be why more and more people are getting rid of their beds in favor of tatami mats.
If you place a futon directly on top of wooden flooring, the difference in temperature between the flooring and the futon can cause condensation to form. If that happens, the futon can become moist, which in turn can allow mold to form.
Placing a tatami mat on the floor will prevent excessive heat buildup and keep the futon from becoming damp.
Sleeping on a tatami mat is a common practice, as tatami mats provide just the right amount of cushioning. They are not too hard to sleep on, unlike flooring materials.
Tatami mats are easy to carry, with a single tatami mat weighing around 3.1 kilograms (6.8 pounds).
If you are placing a tatami mat on a wooden floor, you can stick an anti-slip material to the bottom of the tatami mat to prevent it from moving. This will allow you to place the tatami mat wherever you like.
