Guests staying at Japanese inns, whose rooms are designed in the Japanese style, will have the opportunity to enjoy sleeping on mattresses( Shikibuton ) laid directly on Tatami mats.
In general, these mattresses (Futons) are designed to fit the standard single size.
However, there is a slight difference in the size of mattresses used for Tatami mats compared to mattresses(Futons) used for beds.
In Japan, mattresses used for beds have a standard size of 100cm × 200cm( 39.3in × 78.4in ), while mattresses used for Tatami mats have a size of 210cm.
Despite having a 210cm (82.6in ) in length, for Western users, whose bodies are usually larger compared to Japanese users, these mattresses may feel a little short.
For Western users, the traditional King size (76” x 80”) and the California King size (72” x 84”) are better choices for relaxation.
However, which Tatami mats’ size would best fit the mattresses made in King size?
The Tatami mats manufactured at our company are made in two standard sizes.

Classic Black-Heri Igusa Akebono
- 82 x 164 x 3 cm(32.3 x 64.5 x 1.18 in).
- 82 x 82 x 3 cm (32.3 x 32.3 x 1.18 in).

By combining these standard size mats together, users could easily calculate the number of mats needed to cover the space they want.
